Private amenities stay private
The sandy beach, dock, fire pit, hot tub and two-level deck at Ember & Oar belong to the property rather than the community amenity complex. Guests can use those spaces without packing up for the clubhouse area.
The same is true of the lodge’s two game rooms, stocked kitchen, screened sunroom and included paddle craft. The community amenities are an additional option, not a substitute for having things to do at the house.
What the community adds
The Beech Mountain Lakes community center and recreation area are approximately a two-minute drive from the house. Guest access is included with the stay, subject to community schedules and rules. The shared amenities include an indoor heated pool, fitness center, racquetball court, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, an outdoor volleyball court, game room, playground, community beach, tennis courts, bocce courts and additional seasonal recreation.
These shared facilities are an extra layer of options rather than the core of the stay: the private beach, dock, hot tub, game rooms and other major amenities remain at Ember & Oar itself. The community center is particularly useful when weather changes or a large family wants several different activities at the same time.
Why the location works as a Poconos base
Drums sits in the western Poconos region with straightforward access toward White Haven, Hickory Run State Park, the Lehigh Gorge, Jim Thorpe and the Pocono Raceway area. That creates a useful balance: a self-contained lake stay when the group wants to stay home, plus recognizable Poconos day trips when it does not.
For families planning a longer stay, the lodge can function as the destination for several days and as a base for hiking, biking, rafting, sightseeing, skiing or events on others.
A quiet residential setting
Beech Mountain Lakes is a residential community, not a resort hotel district. Ember & Oar therefore has clear occupancy, parking, pet and quiet-hour rules. The reserving guest must be at least 28, parties and events are not permitted, and community quiet hours begin at 9 PM.
For the right group, that quieter setting is part of the appeal: lake views, outdoor space and community recreation without a commercial resort atmosphere.
